At the College of Engineering, we prioritize inclusive advising, mentoring, and support for all undergraduate students. To ensure your success, each student is assigned an upper-class Peer Mentor, an Academic Advisor, and a Faculty Mentor throughout their academic journey in the College.

All engineering students are required to meet with their Faculty Mentor in the Department prior to seeing their Advisor in the College of Engineering Undergraduate Advising Office. After meeting with your Faculty Mentor, you will meet with your Advisor in the College of Engineering Student Services Office to register for classes.

New incoming First year students must meet with the Transitional Guide, before meeting with the Engineering Academic Advisor. The Transitional Advisor will ensure new first year students have math placement scores on record and any course equivalencies completed.

  • All new Undergraduate Students go to this link for Transitional advisor contact information, advising Information, entrance placement exams requirement, English requirements, and additional information.

All incoming Transfer students are also advised in the College of Engineering Undergraduate Advising Office. This office will guide the student in the process of getting their transfer credits evaluated by the appropriate department to determine the equivalent class at the University of Miami. It is the student’s responsibility to get the evaluation done. Your Academic Advisor is there to answer any questions you might have.

If courses have not been evaluated, students will be directed to complete the MATES online transfer equivalency process. Each transfer student will also be assigned a Faculty Mentor to guide them in their curricular and professional career mentoring

1. The Engineering Advising office will register all incoming first-year students in cohort (IMPaCT program). We will do it after you have met with the Transitional Advisor and have all your math placement and/or ALEKS math scores. So please do this as soon as possible.

  • Graduating Seniors – When will I get my Diploma?

Students will not receive their Diploma or see on Canelink that they have “graduated” until their undergraduate academic file is cleared. Many students believe that once they attend graduation ceremony that they will soon receive their diploma. However, there is a process that the College of Engineering and the University of Miami needs to complete to confer your degree.

Once grades are posted when the semester ends, Student Services can begin the process. This process takes approximately 6-weeks to complete. If you need it sooner because of Grad School, an employer or you are a international Sponsored student, please contact Student Services at advising@eng.miami.edu (or call (305)-284-3100). Student Service can provide you with a letter stating they have met the requirements for graduation (assuming you have).

    What is the Process:

    1. Student services– Downloads all grades and creates all the graduation forms for each student in accordance with our requirements for graduation (approximately 2 weeks for Spring Semester and a few days in the Fall and Summer semesters)

    2. Department - The electronic student file is sent to the Undergraduate Program Director. The UPD reviews each student file to ensure the curriculum was met and the Department Chair approves each file on behalf of the Faculty. (approximately 2 weeks for Spring Semester and a few days in the Fall and Summer semesters).

    3. Student Services – The electronic signed file is returned to the Dean’s office and Student Services updates Canelink to clear the file. Each file has to be done individually. (approximately 2 weeks for Spring Semester and a few days in the Fall and Summer semesters).

    4. Registrar’s office finalizes the conferral of the degree and it is on the student’s transcript.

    5. At this point you are ready to be sent your diploma. Please refer to the Registrar’s office for the turnaround time on receiving diplomas.
