The College of Engineering is a member of the REMADE Institute led originally by the Rochester Institute of Technology and funded by the Department of Energy. The Institute focuses on driving down the cost of technologies essential to reuse, recycle, and remanufacture materials such as metals, fibers, polymers, and electronic waste. The Institute develops technologies capable of reducing energy emissions by reducing primary material consumption and increasing secondary feedstock use in energy-intensive industries. It also develops technologies capable of achieving feedstock “better than cost and energy parity” for essential secondary materials. The University of Miami is one of the 29 universities affiliated with this NNMI center and has access to a vast network of companies and National Laboratories.
